The Natatorium of CUNY/John Jay College will re-open later this year. This ends the 7-year-long renovation of the pool and all its support areas, which are located in Haaren Hall, the campus’ main building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side near Lincoln Center.
Helpern Architects’ Principal for Design Karl A. Lehrke confirms that the 8,400-sf complex is nearing completion, though there will be no water in the pool until June.
For close to 12 months, scaffolding has entirely occupied the 25-ft-high pool area, of the pool, so that the new patterned tile design, wave-shaped slatted teak ceiling, and the 44 ft-long LED light pipes that cross the width of the space can be installed.
