New Haven Senior Housing Renovation
Out to Bid
Helpern Architects has completed the modernization of Fountain Heights Senior Housing in the Westville section of New Haven, Connecticut. The project will be put out to bid in early July of 2024.
Built in 2000, Fountain Heights is a low-rise residential facility that provides 40 affordable one-bedroom units and support spaces for elderly independent living. The renovation will be executed by Connecticut-based First Hartford’s housing division, Connolly & Partners. “In essence, it will be a new building,” David Helpern explains.
The renovation reverses two decades of wear and tear on finishes and systems. It replaces the roof, windows, and siding; upgrades the HVAC system; provides new finishes throughout and new LED lighting; and on the grounds, replaces fencing, lighting, landscaping, and signage. Redesigned common areas are an important part of the scope.
Helpern Architects is doing the project in association with Ronnette Riley Architect of New York City, a firm with extensive housing experience. Consultants to Helpern/RRA are the Manchester, CT office of Fuss & O’Neill for MEP/FP, and Cameron Engineering, civil and structural engineers of Woodbury, N.Y. Helpern Architects completed another affordable housing project for First Hartford, Hope Senior Housing in the Bronx, New York City, in 2019.
