Berkeley Carroll School
Façade Repairs

Brooklyn, New York
Berkeley Carroll School

The venerable Berkeley Carroll School is a top-ranked, co-ed private day school that offers preschool through high school programs in a variety of buildings in Brooklyn’s Park Slope, near Grand Army Plaza.

The school is a careful steward of these facilities, which are mostly sheathed in red brick, differing in size, height, age, and original use. Our work with independent schools usually involves master plans, new buildings, or renovations. Here, Berkeley Carroll asked our Technical Services group to repair the facades, concentrating on brick restoration, matching mortar, and coursing.

We began with a Conditions Assessment in 2002, set up the plan, prepared drawings and specifications, and monitored the contractors’ implementation. We also put in a new slate roof, which had to be submitted to the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission for approval, which it obtained.
