W Hotel

To transform and modernize an existing, dull building into the flagship “W” hotel required fast-track speed and organization.

The scope included a new entrance and retail store fronts, rearrangement of the public spaces, addition of a large fitness center/spa, reconceived guest rooms, new infrastructure, ADA compliance – plus a vertical expansion for additional guest rooms on both the lower and higher wings of the hotel.

As the Executive Architect as well as Architect of Record, Helpern Architects handled all zoning adjustments, design detailing, construction documents, and construction administration.

In addition to executing design development and construction documents for the lobby and restaurant on the first floor, and ballroom and meeting rooms on the second floor, Helpern Architects coordinated the redesign of the kitchens and the layout of the equipment.

Helpern also planned and designed all back-of-house spaces, such as staff locker rooms and toilet rooms, employee cafeteria, housekeeping, engineering, shipping and receiving, storage, and hotel offices.
